British Airways to provide free fast in-flight connectivity by way of Starlink deal

Passengers flying with British Airways can soon access high-speed wifi during flights free of charge due to a major deal with Elon Musk's space company.

Complimentary plus Quick Internet for All

The airline announced that the free, “quick and reliable” internet provision through SpaceX becomes accessible to travelers in coach, premium economy, and premium cabins as of soon.

Expanded Implementation Over Multiple Carriers

The umbrella company for BA, International Airlines Group, stated it had reached an agreement involving Starlink for providing wifi services on 500-plus jets within the group's carriers, which also include the Irish airline, the Spanish carrier, and the low-cost airline.

Seamless Connectivity starting at Boarding through Arrival

British Airways stated that this implementation of this service was part of a £7bn “transformation” initiative and will offer lag-free wifi service for flyers starting at boarding to arrival, including when they are flying over seas and remote regions.

Customers will be able to hook up multiple devices and they will not have to use a unique login.

Transformative for the airline as well as our customers, improving their experience onboard our flights through providing them seamless wifi throughout the flight.”

Current Wifi Options

Restricted wifi access remains offered for British Airways passengers on nearly all of its jets through their .air system.

Enrollees of BA’s reward scheme may send texts plus text-only emails in the air without paying, while travelers who want to stream music, movies, and movies during their travel and are not flying in business or first can expect to be charged from £4.99 and twenty-one pounds ninety-nine per connectivity package.

The Satellite Infrastructure

Starlink uses a network comprising thousands of spacecraft and is operated under Elon Musk’s SpaceX.

Latest Developments for BA

The airline's executive team has been striving to revitalize the airline back after a period of budget reductions, IT problems, strikes, and large-scale layoffs.

The airline noted that implementation with smart technology contributed to it to bring their timeliness to record highs since 2012.

Earnings Results

Recently, the carrier reported a jump for financial performance during the first six months of the year, helping to push IAG’s results upward.

IAG will release its earnings covering the quarter recently soon.

Additional Satellite Agreements

The airline's announcement comes days following telecom provider Virgin Media O2 said it was partnering with SpaceX to boost cellular service across remote areas in Britain, letting consumers to easily connect handsets using orbiting devices when no traditional mobile signal can be found.
